Sexual violence and intimate partner violence statistics tend to show similar trends, with women disproportionately affected. When people are experiencing abuse, reaching out for help is an extraordinarily brave step.  In 2024 alone, NLS handled 2,724 protection from abuse cases among the four counties it serves, including Allegheny, Beaver, Butler and Lawrence.  NLS’s staff and pro bono attorneys specializing in protection from abuse (PFA) orders represent survivors of domestic and family violence in each county we serve. Every day, legal aid attorneys and client advocates at provide essential legal services to survivors of domestic violence heling them achieve safety and independence.
